    How lucky you are to have a boss who believes in you enough to empower you! I think more role models like this are needed, as so many managers model themselves after people who were their managers (even if it means taking on traits that were unappealing as the employee).

    Thanks for the tip... I'll added this to my list o' things to read regarding library innovation and leadership. I feel pretty lucky to be working at a small-ish mid-sized library where I only have one layer of management between myself and the City librarian. And it helps tremendously that that layer is occupied by someone who takes the approach of "As long as the essential day-to-day work is being attended to, yes, by all means, go try some new approaches!"
